The three-day Southwest Museum Union Annual Conference 2026 kicked off in Anren Town, Dayi County in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province，on April 16.

It drew representatives from union member institutions in Sichuan, Chongqing Municipality, Guizhou Province, Yunnan Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Xizang Autonomous Region, cultural heritage experts, corporate representatives and collectors from different parts of China.

Guan Qiang, Chairman of the Chinese Museums Association, said in its opening ceremony that he hopes union members will take the conference as an opportunity to further deepen regional collaboration, strengthen resource integration and innovate development models, striving to set a benchmark for coordinated development among regional museums nationwide.

Set up in 2010, the Southwest Museum Union has 195 member institutions and is the largest, most extensive and most influential cultural heritage collaboration platform in Southwest China.

Next year’s union annual conference will be held in Guangxi, according to Qiu Liping, curator of the Guilin Museum in the autonomous region.

As a key supporting activity of the Southwest Museum Union Annual Conference 2026, the 16th Modern and Contemporary Collectible Exchange of the Jianchuan Museum started concurrently.

More than 300 collectors brought a rich array of collectibles, including modern and contemporary cultural relics, revolutionary documents and distinctive folk items.
